School's out! Summer’s here! Things are getting HOT!

Back to News Archive

During summer break you and your friends are probably out having a good time--going to parties, meeting new people, hooking up with old friends. Maybe you’re at a pool party or out at the lake where hotties are wearing some sweet, little bikinis or guys have great bronzed bods. Hormones are raging and you fantasize about hooking up with someone. What’s your plan to keep yourself safe in the heat of the moment?

Here are 5 ways to have a safe and STD-free summer:

  • Build boundaries for yourself and keep them on your mind at all times. If you are choosing to wait or delay sexual activity,   remind yourself of the reasons for your choice. Keep in mind – not everyone is doing “it”. As a matter of fact, less than half of Spokane teens are.
  • If you’re tempted, find something else to do to take your mind off the temptation.
  • Hang out with friends that can keep you distracted. Avoid situations where you would be alone with the person you want to hook up with.
  • If you decide to have sex, talk with your partner first about potential risks. Get tested! It’s the only way to know that neither of you have an STD. Go to clinic finder to find a place where you can get tested.
  • If you choose to engage in sexual activity, use protection! It could save you a lot of hassle and keep you healthy.
